At least six persons including two SSB personnel sustained injuries after a grenade blast near Assam State Zoo on RG Baruah Road in Guwahati on Wednesday evening.

The injured persons were rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Police said that it was too early to make a comment on who was behind the attack.

Onlookers said that the miscreants targeted the police and CRPF personnel who were on a routine checking on the road.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condemned the attack and asked the Director General of Police to nab the culprits at the earliest.

Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Deepak Kumar said that the culprits might have targeted the police and the security personnel.

“Though we are not sure as of now, but they might have targeted the police and security personnel as this is the place where police carry out routine checking. We can tell you the details only after the investigations,” Kumar told the reporters.

Assam Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia said that the police are taking every step to nab the culprits. Though the local media reported that it’s a handiwork of ULFA, the top cop said it’s too early.

“Our investigations are one. We are working on to nab the culprits. It’s too early to make a comment on who is behind the blasts,” Saikia told reporters at the site of the blast.
