Guwahati on Sunday witnessed the formal launch of yet another outlet of restaurant chain Fat Belly opposite Commerce College. This is the third restaurant under Fat Belly brand after Dighalipukhuri and Uzan Bazaar.

Two engineer-turned-entrepreneurs, who were working with top multi-national companies in Mumbai and Goa, came back to Guwahati to start their own food business early last year. “We are very happy with the response from food lovers of Guwahati and this is the reason we came up with the third restaurant. With this, we are enriching the dining experience keeping in mind people opting for quick-bites as well as lunch and dinner spreads. Also, the new location will enhance our free home delivery service, enabling us to deliver across Guwahati now,” said Dhiraj Deka, one of the co-founders of the restaurant chain.

This restaurant, near Gauhati Commerce College, is the biggest among all the three properties with a seating space for around 75 guests. Popular among the foodies for their special varieties of momo, the restaurant chain has now added Thai cuisine to their menu. Fat Belly offers 48 varieties of momo besides lip-smacking starters, main course and combos – available both for vegetarians and non-vegetarians.

Speaking about the Thai menu, co-founder Parixit Bhattacharjee said, “We wanted to give variety to our guests. The Thai menu at Fat Belly is beautifully curated by our chef to provide value for money and a unique Thai experience. Besides starters and a variety of rice and noodles, special Thai curries will surely excite the food lovers.”

Beginning their journey as food entrepreneurs, Dhiraj and Parixit started Fat Belly restaurant at Dighalipukhuri in March 2017. Offering innovative varieties of Pan Asian cuisine experience, the engineer duo, along with their third partner Manjita Kalita Chowdhury opened the second outlet of Fat Belly at Uzan Bazaar with a bigger and better space in November last year.

“We are happy that with time we are able to offer a better experience to our guests. Our varieties of momo are the talk of the town. With added space, we are now ready to offer even better hospitality to our guests,” said Manjita Kalita Chowdhury who brings in 15 years of experience in the catering space.

Speaking about the team at Fat Belly, Parixit said, “The story till date is scripted by a hard and dedicated working team of kitchen and service section. Fat Belly is blessed with a hard working and dedicated team and we would like to dedicate the success to the entire team.” Strengthening the team, Aditya Bhattacharjee joined the Fat Belly team for the Commerce College outlet. Aditya brings along a rich experience from the IT and banking sector.

The story behind Fat Belly is, in itself, an exciting one. HSLC rank holder Dhiraj went on to study engineering at Assam Engineering College in Guwahati where he met Parixit. After their engineering, they joined top multi-national companies in Mumbai and Goa. It was a dream for them to come back to Guwahati and venture into the food sector – thereby giving birth to Fat Belly.

Fat Belly specializes in varieties of Indo-Chinese starters and main course items – both in vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. It offers 44 types of rice and 52 types of noodles from both Oriental and Thai cuisines. In the main course, the restaurant boasts of various paneer, chicken, fish, pork and prawn items.
