Filmmaker Kangkan Deka, who drew appreciation for his debut movie ‘Beautiful Lives’, is set to release his second feature film ‘Upasharga’.

Made with a backdrop of Ojapali, a traditional folk form of Assam, ‘Upasharga’ will hit the theatres on July 29.

“This film is completely different from my previous one though the bottom line is the same. It’s about the struggles and survivals of human lives,” said Kangkan Deka.

The film narrates the story of Kinkar, a lead member of an Ojapali group and Anil, one of the members of a local band which performs at weddings and other local events. They are childhood friends and their lives are pretty messed up due to deprived financial conditions. Anil always looks for shortcuts to earn money.

Kinkar, separated from his brother is looking for better avenues to settle down and get married. They made a dumb person Rajen and three of them hatch a conspiracy. Will they all together form a team and be able to execute the plan.

“I have tried to portray the difficulties of the people who are so proud of what they do and their tradition. In the practical world, they suffer. They are not financially sound which led to endless troubles in their lives,” Deka added.

The story is based in the Darrang district and has been shot in real locations.

‘Upasharga’ features Kinkar Nath, Anil Nath, Rajashree Sarma, Chandan Kashyap, Nillima Deka and Jagadish Deka in the major roles.

Cinematography is done by Chida Bora while music is composed by Saurav Mahanta. Sound design has been done by national award-winning Debajit Gayan.

Prior to this, Kangkan Deka made a short film named ‘Bhagna Xapun’ (Shattered Dream) which was taken by Pocket Films and premiered in NDTV profit prime.

‘Sita’, his second short film was selected in Short Film Corner of Canes Film Festival in 2015. ‘Sita’ has also got official selection in many festivals like Bangalore International Short Film Festival, Jagran Film Festival, Woodpecker Film Festival and Adda Short Film Festival among others.
