Flood hits 1.94 lakh population in Assam

The flood situation worsened in Assam with over 1.94 lakh population affected, with major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, flowing over the danger level.

An official statement by Assam State Disaster Management Authority on May 26 said seven districts in the state are reeling under floodwaters.

Altogether 1,94,916 people have been affected, with more than 1.60 lakh affected in Goalpara district alone.

Two major rivers, including the Brahmaputra at Nematighat at Jorhat, are flowing over the danger level.

Nearly 9,000 people are housed in relief camps in Goalpara and Tinsukia districts.

Rescue and relief open are being carried out by local administrations, with assistance from NDRF and SDRF.
