The flood situation in Assam continue to be grim on June 18 with nine more people, including two kids, losing their lives, taking the toll in this year’s floods and landslides in the state to 54, a bulletin issued by Assam state disaster management authority said.

The deaths were reported in Hojai, Nalbari, Bajali, Dhubri, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, and Sonitpur. Two people were reported missing in Hojai and Sonitpur.

A total of 18.9 lakh people remained affected in the state, it said. Landslides were reported in Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Hojai, Kamrup and Kamrup (Metropolitan).

As per central water commission bulletin on June 18 at 8 am rivers namely Kopili (at Kampur, Nagaon) is flowing above high flood level; Brahmaputra (at Neamatighat, Jorhat, at Tezpur, Sonitpur, at Dhubri, Dhubri); Jia- Bharali (at NT Road Crossing, Sonitpur); Kopili (at Dharamtul, Nagaon; Puthimati (at NH Road Crossing, Kamrup); Pagladia (at NT Road Crosing, Nalbari); Manas (at NH Road Crossing, Barpeta); Beki ( at Road Bridge, Barpeta) is flowing above danger level. Barak (at BP Ghat Karimganj) and Kushiyara (at Karimganj) are flowing above danger level.

In last 24 hours, 28 districts – Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima-Hasao, Goalpara, Hojai, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Karbi Anglong West, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tamulpur, Tinsukia, Udalguri district have reported flood.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 18 morning to take stock of the situation. The PM assured all possible support from the Centre.

“I pray for the safety and well-being of the people of Assam affected by flooding,” the PM tweeted on June 18.
