NDRF personnel distributing relief materials in flood affected areas in Assam

The overall flood situation in Assam has slightly improved in the last 24 hours on June 24. The total death toll, however, increased to 117. In the last 24 hours, 10 human lives lost across the state.

As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin, a total of 33,03,316 population of 3,510 villages in 28 districts have been affected in floods in the state in the last 24 hours.

The 28 districts reeling under water are – Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dima-Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tamulpur and Udalguri.

The state government has further expedited the response and recovery services by engaging the concerned stakeholders and deployment of additional resources and support systems to the severely affected districts especially Cachar and Barak Valley in the state.

“Two drones have been deployed in Silchar of Cachar for carrying out the flood inundation mapping as well as to provide the relief materials in the inaccessible areas,” said the bulletin.

Altogether 85.2 MT of gratuitous relief items including packaged drinking water and rice among others were air transported on June 24 from Guwahati and Jorhat to Silchar.

“The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel along with SDRF, fire & emergency personnel, police force and Aapda Mitra volunteers are helping the district administrations in the rescue operation and relief distributions,” the bulletin added.
