Flood waters have started receding from many parts of Assam as the number of affected population went down below 20 lakh, though the death toll in the floods continued to increase.

One casualty was reported since July 27 evening, taking the total lives claimed in floods this year so far to 104, Assam State Disaster Management Authority informed in its bulletin.

The number of affected districts stood at 21, in which 60 revenue circles and 1,771 villages and localities remained affected.

The population hit by floods has come down to 19.81 lakh, while over 42,000 remained displaced till now.

Altogether 236 relief camps are still functioning in the state, along with 162 relief distribution centres.

The number of major rivers flowing above the danger level has come down to four, with the Brahmaputra still over the red mark in four places.

Parts of Kaziranga National Park, Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park, and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary are also reeling under waters.
