Former Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker and MLA Pranab Kumar Gogoi breathed his last in Guwahati on February 3.

The veteran Congress leader died at a Guwahati hospital at the age of 84. He was the incumbent MLA of Sivasagar constituency and had been elected from the same seat four times.

An advocate by profession, Gogoi had served as the Law minister from 2006-11 and was the Speaker of the state Assembly from 2011 to 2016.

Last respects were paid to him at the state Assembly premise and state Congress headquarter in Guwahati on February 4, before being taken to Sivasagar for last rites.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, former CM Tarun Gogoi, Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami, senior Cabinet minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury, among others, condoled the death of Gogoi.
