Powerlifters from Assam – Mousumi Bora, Arannanee Gogoi, Minu Gogoi and Minati Dihingia – brought laurels to the state when they represented India at the Commonwealth Powerlifting and Benchpress Championship, 2017 and won gold medals. The championship is being held at Potchefstroom in South Africa.
While Mousumi Bora hails from Morigaon, other three medal winners belong to Sivasagar district. They hold many records to their credit in the field of powerlifting at national and international events.
Congratulating the gold medalists for their excellent feats, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated in a press statement that their achievements have brought glory to the sporting arena of the nation and will inspire upcoming sportspersons to take up sports as a profession. Sonowal also hoped that the powerlifters will bring more accolades in the field of sports to the nation in the days to come.
