Injured midfielder Federico Gallego may soon become available for NorthEast United’s next few games at the Indian Super League as the club expects the Uruguayan professional footballer to be fully fit and take the field in the later part of December.

Replying to a question on the star midfielder’s availability, NorthEast United FC coach Robert Jarni on December 6 said that Gallego is undergoing rehabilitation and training and when he is available, he will be an asset to the team.

“Gallego has a problem in his foot. He is undergoing rehabilitation. He is not part of the squad for now but we hope that he will soon regain fitness and join us,” Jarni said.

On being quizzed about a tentative timeline, Jarni said that Gallego probably should be joining the team within this month itself.

The Uruguayan suffered fractures in his shin bone during the second leg of the playoffs against Bengaluru FC last season.

The attacking midfielder is a fan favourite as – combined with Bartholomew Ogbeche (who now plays for Kerala Blasters) – he was the main architect of NorthEast United’s dream run to the playoffs last season.

Gallego, in his 18 appearances for the Highlanders, scored 4 goals while assisting in 5 others.
