World Championships bronze medallist Shiva Thapa and former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Manoj Kumar clinched the gold medal but Asian silver medallist L Devendro Singh suffered heartbreak and had to be contended with silver at the senior men’s national boxing championships in Guwahati.

Two-time Olympian and local favourite Shiva, who had injured his forehead during the quarterfinal bout, outpunched Ankush Dahiya 5-0 in the lightweight (60kg) division. Two-time bronze medallist at Asian Championships, Manoj, who is representing Railway Sports Promotion Board, defeated Duryodhan Singh of Services Sports Control Board 4-1 in the welter weight (69kg) final bout.

In flyweight (52kg), L Devendro Singh could not get past Chandigarh’s Deepak Singh, who was unanimously adjudged the winner after the final clash. The Manipuri boxer, who was making a comeback after a long gap, later blamed his fitness for the loss.

Overall, Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) produced the best results as they won four golds, one silver and three bronze medals. The Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) bagged two gold, two silver and two bronze medals to finish second.
