The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati saw a footfall of more than 60 Lakh passengers in the last financial year.

An official communication from the airport said that the airport saw a 27 per cent increase in passenger traffic in comparison to 2017-18 with a total footfall of 60,18,054 passengers and 55,066 aircraft movements in 2018-19.

Further, the air cargo movement has also seen a surge of over 10 per cent compared to the last fiscal. The total cargo carried in financial year 2018-19 stands at 23,847 tonnes. The Guwahati airport recently operationalized its international cargo complex which has an annual capacity of carrying over 8000 MT air cargo.

In a statement, Regional Executive Director, NER, DK Kamra, said that the airport is thankful to the passengers, stakeholders and security agencies for their continuous support. “Despite several constrains and limited capacity of the airport, we have achieved this landmark and we strive to provide the best,” he added.

The LGBI airport is poised to witness more traffic in coming days as it is now opened for 24×7 operations.
