LGBI airport highlights green initiatives for Nature Conservation Day

On the occasion of Nature Conservation Day on July 28, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport in Guwahati has taken several initiatives for a greener environment.

“The main reason for celebrating this day is to conserve animals and plants that are going to extinct from the natural environment,” said a statement from the Guwahati airport.

As part of the recent initiatives, 20,000 saplings, plants and trees were planted at the airport. Among them, 10,000 are indoor while the others are planted outdoor. The airport has currently total green cover of 5 acres’ landscape which is being developing in a speedy manner. Moreover, there are 35 varieties of plants, 10 varieties of flowers and some fruiting plants such as mango and guava are also there in the airport.

“Many fern varieties and Chinese varieties for indoor plants also available. The airport is going to install of 1050 sq. ft vertical green wall at the outside of the arrival area. Also developing poly house for growing vegetables indoor plants and for other ornamental plant saplings. We are developing irrigation system for outdoor landscape for saving of water. Dripline system is also being developed for hedge plants and sprinkler system are using for lawn area,” the statement added.

The Guwahati airport, managed by the Adani Group, has planted many plants like snake plants, neem tree and peepal tree which is releasing oxygen and at the same time reducing pollution. The airport has planted 600 air purifying plants for the benefit of the passengers as well as for the stakeholders working for day and night.

The Guwahati airport is developing flora and fauna garden along the road which is visible for the passengers.

The airport deployed an efficient horticulture department who has been planning and implementing the project.
