Gaurav Hazarika of Guwahati has been honoured with the ‘TWA’s Energy Influencer of 2022’. This selection is based on the outstanding research works of the young professionals in the field of oil and gas industry whose work positively influences and inspires others.
He is one among the two Indians who were selected for their achievements for the year 2022.
“This recognition brought responsibilities to work not only for personal recognition but also being a faculty I have to work for betterment of student fraternity of my organisation as well as my almamatter,” Gaurav said after the development.
Gaurav is an assistant professor at Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) in Gujarat. Along with his academic activities, he serves as a technical consultant in his organization’s enhanced oil recovery (EOR) screening committee consulting for private and government exploration and production companies.

His technical know-how led to his role as a technical consultant for NITI Aayog’s project, a “Detailed Analysis of ONGC Videsh Limited’s Overseas Investments”.
Hazarika conducted fire-safety training for students at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, an international webinar series for the Tashkent Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and a field workshop and brainstorming session for top ONGC officials and his colleagues in the onshore geological sites of Kutch Basin.
Hazarika holds a BTech degree in petroleum engineering and an MTech degree in petroleum exploration and production from Dibrugarh University in Assam, India.
“The global exploration and production family is indeed a small amalgamation of professionals around the globe compared to other sectors. Being an energy influencer is a global recognition in the entire upstream petroleum industry,” he added.
Gaurav is the son of Aitumaina Hazarika and Late Lakheswar Hazarika of Guwahati.
“My father was in the Assam Judicial service and retired as District Judge. As he had a transferable job, I did my schooling in many places and finally completed my 10th from Modern High School in Geetanagar (Guwahati), and 12th from Srimanta Shankar Academy, Panbazar (Guwahati) before joining Dibrugarh University,” Gaurav said.
The Way Ahead (TWA) magazine, the publication of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) recognizes young professionals’ grit and determination as well as their contributions to the energy industry, communities, and the world at large. This year 10 professionals from across the globe has been selected.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a not-for-profit professional association whose more than 124,800 members in 134 countries are engaged in oil and gas exploration and production.
SPE is a key resource for technical knowledge providing opportunities to exchange information at in-person and online events and training courses, publications, and other resources. SPE maintains offices in Dallas, London, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Calgary, Moscow and Houston.
