Guwahati Foodie, one of the largest food-related Facebook groups from Northeast India, recently organized an ethnic food photography contest.

The online contest coincided with the celebration of World Food Day on October 16 by the popular Facebook group.

For the contest, Guwahati Foodie invited participation from foodies and photographers on the theme ethnic food of Assam.

Interestingly, the participants were asked to submit complete recipe of the dishes, thereby enabling the members to learn the preparation process of their favourite dishes.

On October 16, the winners were felicitated by Assam Tourism Development Corporation chairperson Jayanta Malla Baruah.

The winners – Digdarsikha Thakuria, Babita Pathak, Chirasmrita Devi, Geeta Dutta and Alongbar Basumatary – were selected by a jury based on their submitted photographs along with the recipe of the dishes.

Speaking on the occasion, Assam Tourism Development Corporation chairperson Jayanta Malla Baruah, said: “I am happy to see the contest promoting the ethnic food of the state. Assam and the Northeast region boost of a number of ethnic foods that could bring in tourists and foodies from other places. I hope the initiative continues and we promote the region through our cuisine.”

The initiative was supported by Barbeque Nation, Fat Belly, Momo Ghar, Freshdo, Raja Mircha, Guwahati Dhaba , Tanduurz by Oriental Bistro and Discover East.
