III Smoking Barrels to release in theatres on September 21

Award winning multi-lingual film ‘III Smoking Barrels’ by director Sanjib Dey is all set to hit the theatres across the country on September 21.

The film, shot in different parts of the Northeast, narrates three tales based on true events in the northeast India.

The film is directed by Sanjib Dey and produced by Amit Malpani and features several prominent names of Mumbai and Bengal film industry.

“Finally, we are here to share the good news. It has been a fantastic journey for us. We have people from across the region and country…it’s a pan India film,” director Sanjib Dey said before the official trailer launch of the film in Guwahati on August 20.

The film will have its theatre releases across the country on September 21. Altogether six languages – Assamese, Hindi, English, Bengali, Nagamese and Manipuri – have been used in the film.

The film is an anthology of three stories from far-east India, each exploring a different stage of human life. The first story is about a child, who on escaping from a rebel camp hijacks a car, transpiring in a journey that unravels her plight and prods deep into traumatic issues of children involved in armed conflicts.

The next story is about a boy, a drug peddler, and his journey into the drug world. It simultaneously explores the life of his grieving mother while delving into the region that has become synonymous with drug trade.

The third story is about a man, an elephant poacher, who ends up killing 15 elephants to fend for himself and his young wife. It explores his treacherous life and the murky powers that control this abhorrent business.

“The film is also an intensely emotional experience that focuses on human relationships. The film is a thrill ride with riveting scenes involving elephants and an immersive jungle experience,” Dey added.

The film features Bollywood actors like Subrat Dutta, Indraneil Sengupta, Nalneesh Neel, Mandakini Goswami, Rajni Basumatary and Amrita Chattopadhya from Kolkata among others. Debutant actors from Assam include Shiny Gogoi, Siddharth Boro and Vikram Gogoi.

Besides winning several awards in the Assam State Film Awards, it has also won the Silver Palm Award for best narrative feature at the 12th Mexico International Film Festival recently.
