Illegal trade in India-Myanmar international border in Manipur has been continuing even as the border was sealed amid COVID-19 outbreak.
Assam Rifles officials on June 10 said that troops recovered huge quantity of contraband items smuggled from Moreh to Imphal in two separate incidents in the last 48 hours. The troopers of Tengnopal Battalion were carrying out mobile vehicle checks along NH 102 when the smuggled items were recovered.
Troops seized cigarettes and other contraband items and detained individuals were later handed over to Tengnopal Police Station for further action.
Troops of Moreh Battalion recovered huge quantity of essential goods being ferried towards Myanmar. The troops deployed at Haolenphai and Govajang recovered the amassment of essential items stockpiled inside thick vegetation along India-Myanmar border with an intent to ferry the consignment towards Myanmar side in the dark. The approx cost of recovered items is estimated to be in lakhs, news agency UNI reported.
The items seized by the troops of Moreh Battalion have been handed over to appropriate authority for further legal action.
