It was a proud moment for India when Hima Das, from Nagaon in Assam, qualified for the final of the women’s 400 metre event on Tuesday at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

The 18-year-old girl from Dhing in Nagaon district of Assam took 51.53 seconds to complete her 400 metre race to qualify for the final at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. This was her personal best record.

Earlier, her personal best was 51.97, which she set up at the Federation Cup in India in March, 2018.

“It’s a happy moment for achieving my personal best. Thank you all for your prayers,” Hima posted on Facebook just after the event.

The final will take place on Wednesday.

Social media has already started celebrating Hima’s victory at the games. Hima took to professional training only since 2016.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal also congratulated the sprinter.

“We are happy to hear the good news. I congratulate her for the achievement and also wish her the best for the finals,” Sonowal said.
