Senior IAS officer Jishnu Baruah will be the new chief secretary of Assam as the incumbent chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna retires on October 31.
Baruah, a 1988-batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer, is currently serving as the additional chief secretary (home and political), revenue and disaster management and Assam Accord implementation departments.
He will take over the charge on October 31.
Baruah has previously served in different capacities both in the state and New Delhi. Besides serving as deputy commissioner of districts like NC Hills (1995-95) and Jorhat (1996-97), he was also appointed as the managing director, Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC).
He had also been on central deputation from 2001 to 2006 during which he had served as the private secretary to Union minister of state for commerce, planning, atomic energy and space along with statistics and programme implementation.
From 2014-2017, he served as the joint secretary of services, vigilance and training in the Centre.
Prior to his new assignment, Baruah said that his priorities as the chief secretary would be to hold the election in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in a proper manner.
“Giving impetus to revenue administration would be another area of priority,” Baruah was quoted as saying by The Assam Tribune.
