During the event, the students of the school were allowed to get hands-on experience of handling real weapons which was the main attraction of the event.
“The mela was organized to spread awareness about armed forces among civil population and motivate youth to join Indian Armed Forces,” said Defence spokesperson Lt Col P Khongsai.
Weapons display at Army Day celebrations
The event included display of wide array of state-of-the-art military weapons and equipment which demonstrated the technological advancement and military might of the country.
Also, a band display was organised during the occasion. The event saw overwhelming participation from students and youth of the adjoining areas.
Every year Army Day is celebrated on January 15 to commemorate Lt Gen KM Cariappa’s taking over as the first commander-in-chief from General Sir Francis Butcher in 1949. The day is celebrated in the form of parades and other military shows across the country.
