The brutal killing of Lafiqul Islam has been condemned in strong words by Rajya Sabha MP from Assam Santiuse Kujur.
Talking to The News Mill over phone, he condemned the killing and termed it a political killing. He demanded CBI inquiry into the incident and arrest of the culprits involved.
Kujur also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi expressing grave concern over the brutal killing and presence of illegal arms in BTAD, which he termed, to be the main cause of frequent killings of innocent people in BTAD districts.
In the letter he expressed dismay that even though Lafiqul Islam had been targeted earlier and provided with PSO, he was not under protection during the time of the incident.
Sensing deep-rooted conspiracy over his killing and past records of killings in BTAD region, the Rajya Sabha MP asked the government to take steps to stop rumour mongers from spreading hoax news which might incite violence.
Expressing concern over the easy availability of illegal weapons in the insurgency-ravaged BTAD area, Kujur said that surrendered factions of ultra groups still possessed illegal arms and the government needed to seriously ponder over the issue as these weapons are used during communal riots to target innocent people. He further asked the state and central governments for planning out long-term strategies to wipe out insurgency from the BTAD districts and to take immediate steps to seize all the illegal arms, including those with surrendered militants.
