Landslides triggered by incessant rains claimed the second life in three days in Guwahati on June 28.
Officials said that a girl, identified as Priyanka Boro, was killed in an incident of landslide in Kharghuli area of the city on June 28 morning.
An undergraduate student of a city college, Priyanka was a budding dancer and had performed at different places and was also felicitated by the governor recently.
Several houses were also damaged in the incident, while a similar landslide damaged part of a house in Gitanagar area of the city on June 28.
Another 75-year-old woman had died due to head injuries sustained in a similar incident of landslide in Kahilipara area of the city on June 26.
Amit Shah Inquires About Assam Floods, Guwahati Landslides
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 28 and expressed his concern on the number of landslides and the overall flood situation in the state.
“Spoke to Assam Chief Minister Shri @sarbanandsonwal and Shri @himantabiswa to take stock of the alarming situation in Brahmaputra river and landslides near Guwahati. All possible help has been assured to the state. Modi government stands firmly with the people of Assam,” Shah informed through Twitter.
The continuous rains in the state over the last few days has also led to gradual landslides under a guard wall of Raj Bhawan in Kharghuli area of Guwahati, leading the Kamrup Metro district administration to order vacating of a private hospital situated near the governor’s official residence.
The district administration has also ordered the people living in vulnerable landslide areas to move to safer places for the monsoon period.
