Liquor companies to supply free sanitizers to health departments

Liquor companies in Assam will supply five lakh litres of sanitizers to the state health department free of cost as part of their CSR activity.

Acting on a directive issued by Assam Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, the liquor companies stated that they will deliver five lakh litres of sanitizers free of cost to the health department.

“This will be part of the CSR activities by liquor companies of Assam. As per demand of health department, around 5 crore bottles of 200 ml each are required which will be supplied by excise factories of Assam on absolute free of cost basis,” said the excise minister.

These sanitizers will be produced according to the guidelines set up by WHO, Essential Commodities Act and Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

“The main objective is to curb the menace of fake sanitizers and black marketing by some evil traders of the state,” Suklabaidya added.

The excise department has taken steps to make available sanitizers for Manipur and Nagaland as well through its manufacturing units.

Till now, 11 companies have started producing the sanitizers in Assam.

Prior to this, various colleges in the region came forward with their lab-made sanitizers.
