Lovlina Borgohain at Tokyo Olympics

India boxer Lovlina Borgohain entered the semi-finals in 69kg category of boxing at the Tokyo Olympics on July 30, ensuring India a medal at the competition.

In the process, Lovlina Borgohain from Golaghat in Assam became the first person from the state to win an Olympics medal.

In her quarterfinal match against Chen Nien-chin of Chinese Taipei on July 30, the Assam boxer overcame her opponent in 4-1 split decision.

Now, Lovlina will face B Surmeneli of Turkey in the semifinals on August 4.

Lovlina Borgohain, 23, is from Golaghat in Assam. She is the first woman from the state to qualify for the Olympics.

She is the second boxer from the state to represent the country after Shiva Thapa. In 2020, she became the sixth person from Assam to receive Arjuna Award.
