A team of Narcotic and Affair of Border (NAB) of Manipur Police arrested a man with 13kg of opium during an operation in Bishnupur district on May 15, a police statement said on May 18.

The seized opium would be valued around Rs 9.1 lakh in the local market, the police said.

According to the police, the NAB team detained Nengsuanhau (42) of Churachandpur district after 13 packets of opium was found in his possession during a check at Kwakta under Moirang police station of Bishnupur district on May 15.

The seized 13 packets were found to be opium weighing about 13 kg together. The value of the item would be around Rs 9.1 lakh in the local market, the police added.

During preliminary investigation, the accused stated that he took the opium from one person from Churachandpur district to deliver to another person in Kwakta area of Bishnupur, the police further said.

The linkages were established and effort was made to arrest the associates, the police further added.
