A 31-year old man from Imphal East district who returned from Mumbai with a non-COVID-19 patient was tested positive for novel coronavirus disease on May 14.
He is the third case of COVID-19 in Manipur. The other two were already declared negative and were discharged from hospitals.
The man who was tested positive on May 14 was taken to COVID-19 treatment block/ isolation ward of JNIMS. Additional Director & spokesperson Health department Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said, “Contact tracing and active surveillance in the containment zone will be done immediately. As a preparatory arrangement, district rapid response teams (rrts) and surveillance teams have been constituted in all the districts, including 40 sub-surveillance teams in each district. COVID-19 treatment blocks at JNIMS and RIMS are in readiness.”
The man had reportedly gone to Mumbai for treatment of his father and his mother, who died at Mumbai due to COVID-19. He came back with his father in a private vehicle and reached Manipur on May 13. He was kept at a quarantine centre.
