Man shot by miscreants near Athgaon in Guwahati

A man was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Kumarpara near Athgaon in Guwahati on September 12 evening.

The incident took place near Athgaon where a group of 4-5 miscreants shot an employee at Jagadamba Iron And Steel Industries Pvt Ltd from point-blank range.

The injured person, identified as Shyam Sharma, was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, top police officials started investigation. A person was detained in connection with the case.

A relative of the deceased said that, five persons came and fired him from point-blank range. “Five persons came here and asked some employees about Shyam Sharma (owner of the shop). When the employees said that, the owner was not there, they entered inside and asked the cashier (whose name also Shyam Sharma). When the cashier said that, he is Shyam Sharma, the miscreants fired him and fled from the area,” the relative of the deceased person said.

Joint Commissioner of Guwahati city police Devraj Upadhyaya said that, “during preliminary investigation we suspected that, the shooters were hired in this case.”

“We suspect that, hired criminals had conducted the crime. We have started technical investigation. We have also called dog and technical team of the CID,” the police official said.
