Assam bagged the second highest tally of medals behind Manipur at the recently concluded 5th North East Zone Shooting Championship in Shillong. The total medals stand at 37 for Manipur including 17 gold, 10 silver & 10 bronze; 30 for Assam including 14 gold, 10 silver & 6 bronze; 23 for Meghalaya including 6 gold, 8 silver & 9 bronze; 7 for Mizoram including 5 gold, 1 silver & 1 bronze and 4 for Nagaland including 2 gold, 1 silver & 1 bronze.

Competition director and general secretary of Assam Rifle & Shooting Association (ARSA), Bhaba Kalita expressed satisfaction over the state’s performance said, “We have increased our medal tally from last year, besides making new Northeast records in some categories.”

It was a golden run for Priyanku Jyoti Sharma who bagged three gold medals in three events besides making a new Northeast record in the Free Pistol event. Neelut Prasad Boruah, Bishaya Singha, Arman Ali and Reshmi Thousen were the other new Northeast record makers in their respective events.
