Chief secretary Rajesh Kumar said in an order issued on January 15 that in view of the rapid increase in the “test positivity ratio”, absolute number of COVID-19 positive cases per day and detection of Omicron variant in the state, the restrictions were imposed.

Violators will be penalised promptly under relevant rules, the order said.

All district magistrates and district superintendents of police shall be personally responsible and shall strictly enforce the above restrictions by invoking relevant provisions of law, he added.

Manipur on January 15 recorded 158 new COVID-19 cases. The positivity rate was 7.1 per cent.

Two persons died in the past 24 hours, increasing the toll to 2014.
