Manipur government has sent additional police force to the tension gripped border town Moreh even as the Myanmar authorities are yet to hand over the bodies of the two Indian nationals killed in Tamu town of that country.
Tension prevailed in Moreh after the two Indian nationals from the border town were shot dead in Tamu town in Myanmar where they visited their friend on July 5.
Reports said that the bodies are yet to be handed over to Indian authorities.
Meanwhile, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on July 7 informed that the Indian embassy in Myanmar had written to the Myanmar authorities to hand over the bodies.
The bodies will be handed over soon after completing the diplomatic processes, he told reporters in Imphal.
Meanwhile, Manipur home department has sent a large contingent of police force led by an IG in the border town on July 6 night in view of the prevailing tension.
Residents of Moreh have been protesting against the killing and also non-handing over of the dead bodies by the Myanmar authorities since July 6.
The protesters who torched a sentry post of the Myanmar army after crossing the international border had also engaged in stoning with the Myanmar nationals across the border.
In view of the prevailing high tension, Manipur’s Tengnoupal district administration has imposed restrictions on the gathering of five or more people and carrying of deadly weapons in the border town with effect from July 6.
Besides the troops of Assam Rifles guarding the international border, additional security forces including police commandos, IRB and Manipur Rifles are having a close vigilance at the border to check escalation of the violent incidents in the border.
The security forces have also prevented any kind of gathering at the Sunrise Ground located just at the international border.
Sources said that top police officials camping in the border town convened a meeting with the leaders of the civil society organisations and various communities on July 7 in a bid to check any sort of escalation of the situation in the border town.
