Manipur recorded the highest single-day COVID-19 fatalities since the third wave hit the state as the death toll climbed to 2,072 with six new deaths on February 8.

However, the single day rise in coronavirus cases continued to report below 200-mark for the second day as the state reported 160 fresh cases, taking the total tally to 1,35,170 cases, according to the latest update data of the state health department.

A decline in the test positive rate was also recorded as it stood at 7.8%. The state tested 2,055 samples on the day, taking the total number of samples tested so far for the virus in the state to 15,43,272.

The active COVID-19 cases have further reduced to 3,604 as the discharge cases continued to outnumber the fresh cases. As many as 209 patients were discharged upon recovery on the day.

The 209 discharges took the overall recovery count of the state to 1,29,494 with a recovery rate of 95.80%.

Of the six fresh deaths reported in the last 24 hours, three were from Imphal East and one each from Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.

Three of the deceased were fully vaccinated while one was vaccinated with the first dose. Five of them had comorbidities, the state health department claimed.

Among the 16 districts, Imphal West continued to report the highest number of fresh infections with 57 cases even as no new cases were reported in two districts.

Imphal East reported 38 new cases, 12 in Ukhrul and 11 each in Tamenglong and Thoubal districts. The remaining districts reported below 10-mark.

As many as 10,436 people were vaccinated on February 7, taking the total number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered so far in the state to 25,85,051.
