Manipur on January 18 recorded 380 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day rise of the current month, January, with a positivity rate of 14.0 per cent.

However, the fatality toll remained at 2,015 as no death was reported on the day for the second consecutive day.

The state has been recording a steady rise in the daily infection since the beginning of the current month, with above 100-mark in the last week.

The state recorded 116 infections on January 11, 206 on January 12, 155 on January 13, 116 on January 14, 158 on January 15, 279 on January 16 and 235 on January 17.

The 380 fresh cases reported on the day took the infection tally of the state to 1,27,873.

The active COVID-19 caseload also rose to 1,791. The state also recorded 46 recoveries today, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,24,067. The recovery rate dropped further to 97.02%, the state health department said, in its latest bulletin.

The fresh cases were detected upon testing of 2,724 samples and the test positivity rate (TPR) of the day stood at 14.00%, the second highest TPR of the current month. Manipur recorded the highest TPR of 14.40% of the month on January 16.

As per status update of the state SDSP, Imphal West reported the maximum number of 151 fresh cases, followed by 80 in Imphal East district. At 73 Churachandpur closely followed Imphal East.

Except two districts, all other districts of Manipur reported fresh cases with 24 in Kangpokpi, 16 each in Bishnupur and Thoubal, seven in Ukhrul district. The remaining districts reported fresh cases below five-mark.

The number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 on Monday was 8,452 and adding this, a total of 23,95,965 doses of the vaccine have been administered in the state so far.

Of this total, 13,66,300 were first doses, 10,21,743 second doses and 7,922 precautionary doses, the health department added.
