Acting on several complaints of price rise in Manipur due to the COVID-19 induced restrictions, the state government on April 25 ordered all shops to display prices of essential items in front of their shops.

The Manipur government ordered all shops in the state to exhibit the prices of 17 essential items in front of their shops from April 26 onwards to keep a check on price hike.

The government has announced the prices of 17 essential items under Section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

Various students’ organizations and people had voiced their opposition to the sudden hike in prices of essential commodities, especially rice, pulses, sugar, potato etc. after the government announced night curfew and opening of shops on rotation bases in view of the rise in COVID-19 cases.
