A massive fire and smoke was seen coming out from the Oil India Limited (OIL) site in Baghjan in Tinsukia district of Assam on June 9. The site had witnessed an oil and gas blowout on May 27.

Locals reported that huge smoke was seen coming out of the area on June 9, which was visible from a long distance.

Experts from Singapore and other engineers arrived at the site and were working to contain the situation.

“We heard an explosion and the sky was darkened within moments. It was fire everywhere,” said an eyewitness.

Oil India Limited had tweeted at 1:39 pm on June 9 that the ‘well killing’ operation was in “full swing and entered final stage”. “All major arrangements for well killing operations in full swing and enters final stage with Initial testing of Hydraulically Driven Mechanical Transporter carried out, experts from M/s Alert Disaster Control visited the site & complimented OIL for all the preparatory works carried out so far,” the tweet read.

There was no any official confirmation on the reported fire and smoke incident, till the filing of this report.

Already more than 2,500 people were shifted from the surrounding areas of the blowout site and they have been kept in a relief camps around 2-kilometre away from the site.
