Meghalaya government on May 29 decided to further ease the ongoing lockdown amid the rising positive COVID-19 cases in the state.

The state has recorded 27 COVID-19 cases, of which 12 have recovered, one died and eight remain active and are under treatment.

“The government has allowed private and non-profit making office establishments or organizations to restart their activities but with total staff strength of 33 per cent and protocols and SOPs are in place,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters.

He also informed that government will issue necessary directions to all respective deputy commissioners.

With the restarting of construction activities, Tynsong said the government has allowed private firms and contractors to hire highly skilled labourers or technicians from outside the state.

And for this, the concerned private establishments need to apply to the respective DCs as the case may be and as the need arises application should be submitted and special permission will be granted but SOPs and protocols need to be in place, he further added.

“This decision will also be communicated to the DCs for necessary action. So contractors who need to bring in highly skilled labourers from outside the state, will need to furnish all required information to deputy commissioners and through recommendation of concerned departments and accordingly permission will be granted,” he said.
