Meghalaya at present has no active COVID-19 case after a woman who had tested positive a week back, was declared recovered on May 18, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed.
“I would like to inform today that Meghalaya has no more active case. Out of the 13 cases, one passed away while 12 others fully recovered,” he told reporters in his daily briefing.
The 30-year-old woman had tested positive for COVID-19 on May 9. She was one of the 181 primary contacts of the first positive patient who died on April 15 after he was tested positive on April 13.
All these cases were within the Shillong agglomeration under East Khasi Hills district.
Out of the 11 districts, Tynsong said only East Khasi Hills would still be categorized as an ‘orange zone’ while the remaining have been categorized as ‘green zones’.
However, he said that the government would communicate to the centre regarding the development where there are no more active cases in the state.
The deputy chief minister also informed that till May 18, 3207 samples have been collected for testing, out of which, 2883 samples reported negative while the results of 311 samples were awaited.
“6,565 citizens who were stranded in different parts of the country, including from the other Northeast states, have returned home,” he said.
Furthermore, Tynsong informed that a train from Bengaluru, with not less than 1,250 citizens from the state, has left on May 18 evening, and is expected to arrive at Guwahati railway station on May 20.
Appealing to all those who have returned home to abide by government advisories, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “All our friends who have come back to the state from different parts of the country, as per government advisory please follow all protocols including mandatory quarantine. This is for your good, the good of your loved ones and the good of the state as a whole.”
