Meghalaya Police on September 6 busted an inter-state drugs racket and arrested four persons from two different places.

An Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) detained a Tripura-bound truck loaded with IFML beer based on specific information about the trans-shipment of drugs from Guwahati via Meghalaya to Agartala.

East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger said the ANTF team lead by Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) B Jyrwa intercepted the truck bearing Nagaland registration at Shillong Bypass on September 6 morning.

“During search, one jute bag containing 5 sealed packets of suspected Yaba tablets were recovered from the ceiling of the cabin of the truck,” the police official said, adding that a preliminary test was conducted which indicated positive for methamphetamines.

The total weight of the tablets was 5.076 kg.

Nongtnger said the driver Mithan Nama of Gopalpur, North Tripura has been arrested and a case has been registered for further investigation to unravel the racket.

In another drug seizure, three persons, including a woman, were arrested from 3rd Mile Upper Shillong in the wee hours of September 6 after 0.65 grams of powder suspected to be illegal drugs was recovered from the possession of Manbhalang Dympep.

Police also arrested Dympep’s friend Pheryl Wahlang after they recovered a cash Rs 45,000 from peddling drugs from her possession and Biangbor Nongsiej, who came to buy the illegal drugs from the two peddlers.
