Joining the nationwide celebration of India’s victory over Pakistan in the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, Mizoram observed Vijay Diwas at War Memorial, Treasury Square Aizawl, on December 16.

Mizoram governor Hari Babu Kambhampati led the floral tributes to the fallen heroes at the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971 for the liberation of Bangladesh on the occasion of Vijay Diwas.

Chief minister Zoramthanga led the rest of the officials, military officers and leaders from the ex-services League in paying homage to the fallen heroes at the battlefield.

Home minister Pu Lalchamliana and chief secretary Pi Renu Sharma were among the top officials who had turned up at the remembrance event.

Pu Lalbiakthanga, a veteran of World War II and a recipient of Padma Shri 2020 was also among the retired soldiers who paid floral tributes to their fallen comrades.

“Considering the size of the state and its population the contribution of Mizoram is no less than that of bigger states. On this occasion, it may be worthy of mentioning that the three former chief ministers of the State and four MLAs were either defence officers or soldiers,” the directorate of information & public relations, Aizawl stated in a press release.
