Model village to be established in every district of Manipur, says CM Biren Singh

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on December 20 said that development of the state will only be possible when its villages develop.

He said that a model village with basic infrastructures will be set up in every district of Manipur so that different villages can use it as a reference for further development.

The chief minister said that Kachai village, Ukhrul has been proposed to be set up as a model village considering its importance in the production of the renowned Kachai lemon.

CM Biren Singh was speaking during a visit to Teinem village under Lungchong Maiphei Block of Ukhrul district to participate in the state government’s community outreach programme.

The chief minister inaugurated Lungchong Maiphei police outpost, a branch office of Manipur State Cooperative Bank Ltd., SDO/BDO office and One Stop Centre (Sakhi).

He also distributed benefits under different schemes to selected beneficiaries.

Biren Singh said his politics was purely based on humanitarian services. He added that there are a number of underdeveloped zones in far-flung areas of the state and his government has been working hard to bring about inclusive and sustainable development in every nook and corner of the state and ease various problems faced by the people of Manipur, irrespective of caste and region.

Stating that he had decided to visit the block after meeting and hearing the grievances from representatives of 28 villages, chief minister Biren Singh added that he personally inquired from the deputy commissioner about various grievances and requirements of LM Block and necessary actions were taken up to deliver all possible services during the visit.

He said that hill districts of the state remained backward as the elected representative and concerned persons failed to provide the benefits to the people.

He reiterated that his aim was to visit every nook and corner of the state and deliver different benefits and services of the government at the people’s doorsteps.

The chief minister appealed to the youth of the district to apply for Manipur StartUp Scheme and shared that the ‘Hill Wild’ King Chili chocolate of Ukhrul district which benefited under the scheme has become an international sensation.

Announcing that Rs 26 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of worksheds, godowns and dryers under the Van Dhan Vikas Yojana of Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED) which employs around 41,000 tribal women of Manipur, 46 will be constructed in Ukhrul which is the highest in the state.
