A mutilated body of an unidentified woman was found near the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati, just a few days ahead of the Ambubachi Mela.

Police on June 19 recovered the body from the Nilachal Hills near the Kamakhya Temple which is under tight security along with flow of top officials due to the ensuring Ambubachi Mela. The body of the woman who was believed to be over 40 years of age, was recovered at the stairs leading to the Bon Durga temple situated within the Kamakhya Temple complex on Wednesday evening.

Reports said that police also recovered flowers, incense sticks and other materials used for worship, near the mutilated body.

Kamakhya Temple is abuzz with preparations for the Ambubachi Mela from June 22. The annual event witnesses lakhs of devotees thronging to the temple. Security in and around Kamakhya Temple has been beefed up in preparations for the mela.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with state Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma visited the temple on June 18 to take stock of the preparations.
