Temjen Imna Along, a name not known to many at the national level, is one of the most Google-searched words in the last several days.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, union minister Kiren Rijiju from Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma keep grabbing the national eyeballs for some reason or the other.
Apart from that, most of the political leaders in the Northeast prefer to stay quiet.
But now, Temjen Imna Along, has been a name many are discussing on social media – starting from his speech to his ‘wife’.
Temjen is a minister of higher education and tribal affairs in Nagaland. He is also the state president of the BJP in Nagaland.
First, he came to the limelight because of his speech in which he mentioned about the shape of the eyes of Northeastern people. Northeastern people have been at the receiving end of racism because of their appearance, especially their eye shape.
Temjen during an event mentioned that having smaller eyes is an advantage.

“People say we have smaller eyes but we can see properly. Having smaller eyes is an advantage. If you have smaller eyes, less dust can get inside. Apart from that, during long boring meeting sessions, I can take a nap in between without getting noticed,” he joked.
This video went viral.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted quoting the video “My brother @AlongImna is in full form.”
Then, on world population day, he rose to the occasion and tweeted: “On the occasion of #WorldPopulationDay, let us be sensible towards the issues of population growth and inculcate informed choices on childbearing. Or #StaySingle like me and together we can contribute towards a sustainable future. Come join the singles movement today.”
