The Nagaland government on July 3 accorded state funeral in honour of legislator Toshi Wungtung, at his mother’s house at Purana bazaar of Dimapur. Toshi worked as advisor of IPR, SCERT & VG.

Toshi passed away on July 1 in New Delhi and his mortal remains were flown to Dimapur on July 2.

According to officials, offering his tribute to Toshi, speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, expressed grief and shock at the untimely demise and offered condolences to the wife, mother and family members of the departed soul.

He highlighted on the colourful profile of Toshi, his past and present personal experiences where he served as the president of Naga Students Union of Delhi, his active participation with the Naga Students’ Federation.

Nagaland minister for planning and parliamentary affairs Neiba Kronu, offered condolences on behalf of the state government and termed the demise of Toshi as irreplaceable.

Nagaland leader of opposition TR Zeliang dubbed Toshi as a smart and a promising leader of the Nagas and noted that his participation both within and outside the country as remarkable. His immense contribution for the cause of the Nagas particularly Eastern Nagaland will be remembered, Zeliang added.

Wife of the deceased, Lipokla, described her late husband as her soul mate and a confidant man with highest calibre and noted that she was honoured to be his wife. Married in 2006, she said that she shared a lifetime of love with her husband and said she would cherish the memories forever.

The programme was chaired by Nagaland principal secretary for home Abhijit Sinha. Later, the mortal remains of Toshi were taken to Dimapur airport and were airlifted by Nagaland helicopter to his native village for final service and burial, officials said.
