Samanwoi Nouka Yatra, a boat journey in salutation to ‘mahabahu’ Brahmaputra, was undertaken by various satradhikars on March 28 from Majuli as a curtain-raiser event to the Namami Brahmaputra Festival 2017.

Adhikars Janardan Devgoswami (Uttar Kamalabari Satra), Basistha Devgoswami (burha satriya of Borpeta Satra), Dutta Devgoswami (adhikar of Bhogpur Satra),  Bhabananda Devgoswami (adhikar of Bor Alengi Satra) and Atul Chandra Mahanta (deka-adhikar of Adi Bihimpur Satra) along with a cultural troupe consisting of a Satriya gayan-bayan group, Dihanam group, Karbi cultural group etc. started their journey to Guwahati as a part of Namami Brahmaputra event from majuli.

Amid chanting of slokas and uruli, deputy commissioner Majuli Pallav Gopal Jha flagged off the boats from Kamalabari ghat on Tuesday. The specially decorated boats showcased the rich cultural heritage of Assam.

The Samanwoi Nouka Yatra by the satradhikars will cover 9 districts of Assam before reaching Guwahati, the main venue for the Namami Brahmaputra festival.
