The chairperson of the newly-floated militant group, Karbi Democratic Liberation Front (KDLF), was killed in an encounter with police in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on December 17.

The deceased militant was identified as 26-year-old Jackson Ronghang and he was the chairperson of the newly-floated militant group Karbi Democratic Liberation Front (KDLF).

Bokajan sub divisional police officer (SDPO) John Das said that the encounter took place at Bibia Kro village under Rongmongwe police station in the hill district.

“On December 11, a kidnapping case was reported where a worker was kidnapped. The victim was recovered from the hills and one accused was arrested. The mastermind of the kidnapping was Jackson Ronghang, the chairperson of KDLF against whom several cases of extortion and Arms Act were registered at different police stations,” John Das said.

“Today information was received that Jackson Ronghang has come to his house and as such an operation was carried out at Bibia Kro village under Rongmongwe police station and an encounter took place between police party and Jackson Ronghang, where Jackson Ronghang got bullet injury. Later he succumbed to his injuries,” he added.

One pistol and ammunitions along with other objectionable materials of KDLF like demand letter and pads were recovered from the encounter site in Karbi Anglong district.
