Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway) has collected fine money of Rs 35 crore this year from ticketless travellers, a railway official said on August 11.

In its efforts to curb ticketless travel, NF Railway has been conducting intensive campaign where it collected a fine of Rs 35.71 crore from January to July 2022.

During the period, 15213 numbers of ticket checking drives have been conducted under NF Railway. During the checking more than 4.98 lakh of without ticket/irregular ticket passengers were detected and an amount of Rs 35.71 crore was realized as excess fare and penalty, NF Railway chief public relations officer Sabyasachi De informed.

Also 3956 unbooked luggage cases were detected and Rs 7 lakh have been realized in this connection. Altogether it is 439.33% higher in terms of number of penalty cases and 783.46% higher in terms of penalty earnings compared to same period of previous year.

“Travelling without proper ticket or beyond authorised distance may levy excess charge and fare. In case a passenger fails or refuses to pay the same on demand, he shall be in default of payment and will be prosecuted under relevant sections of The Railways Act, 1989,” the official added.

“NF Railway appeals to the general public to travel with proper and valid tickets and carry valid Identity cards in order to avoid inconvenience,” he added.
