To check the possibility of spread of Coronavirus, Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) has been undertaking thorough cleaning of all coaches apart from railway premises.

Special emphasis on frequent disinfection of coaches is being given in all coaching depots under NFR, an NFR statement said in Guwahati on March 17.

Sanitization of all critical areas of mass contact in all the coaches are being done after the rake is released from pit examination and washing.

Dedicated team for disinfection work has been deployed to carry out this task in all divisions.

In addition to this, OBHS (On Board House Keeping Service) staffs on board running trains are carrying out on board cleaning of all long distance passenger carrying mail/express trains on frequent intervals.

There are 10-12 OBHS staffs in each train who carry cleaning equipments and disinfecting chemicals with them to keep the inside of coach clean and hygienic during journey.

The NFR has already withdrawn the provision of blankets and curtains in air-conditioned coaches of all trains that are being operated to prevent spreading of novel Coronavirus till improvement in situation.

In addition to this, special drive for disinfection is being carried out in all major stations with huge footfall of passengers.

Lift, escalators, stair cases, sitting chairs, water taps etc in stations are being disinfected regularly by using approved chemicals in line with sanitizing of all critical areas of mass contact.

Drive is also launched to create awareness about the COVID-19 among passengers and people in general in local languages.

Announcement in local languages are being made through Public Address system in all stations and posters depicting Dos and Don’ts are being displayed in all stations and trains. Videos showing the precautions to be taken are being played in stations where such facilities are available.
