NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) will play a friendly match against the Indian National Football Team in preparation for the upcoming Hero Indian Super League 2019-20 on October 9.

An official statement by the Guwahati-based ISL club said that the match will take place at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati and will kickoff at 7.30 PM. The match will be open for all.

The Indian team is in Guwahati for their preparation camp ahead of their FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Bangladesh on October 15.

It will probably be the first time that the national team will play a friendly against an Indian Super League club.

Talking about the friendly, NorthEast United FC’s head coach Robert Jarni said, “It is a great opportunity for us to play the Indian National Team before we begin our season. I am sure it will be a fantastic match and will help both sides prepare for the upcoming fixtures.”

The open-for-all friendly match will give another chance to the people of the region to witness the Indian national team play in Guwahati. Earlier on September 4, India played their first qualifier match for FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 when they took on Oman in Guwahati. The Indian team fought hard before they bowed down to a 1-2 defeat.
