NorthEast United’s star midfielder and playmaker Federico Gallego is out injured yet again. On November 29, Gallego was drafted in the starting XI for the first time this season for the Highlanders as they took on Chennaiyin FC.

In his side’s third match of the new Indian Super League (ISL) season, Gallego was involved in a clash with Chennaiyin FC’s Narayan Das. Gallego has his knee injured in the coming together and was carried out on a stretcher.

NorthEast United, who were holding well till Gallego was on the field, lost the match 1-2 as Chennaiyin made the most of the star playmaker’s absence. The Highlanders were missing the services of their forward Deshorn Brown as well in the match.

After the match, NEUFC coach said: “It was not our day as you can see Gallego got injured. We missed Deshorn Brown as well today.”

On Gallego’s injury, he said: “We have to see…tomorrow maybe the physio and the doctor will take a look at his condition. Let’s hope he will come back soon.”

Gallego, who is in his fourth season with the Highlanders, has been injury-prone. The 31-year-old from Uruguay missed six matches – 249 days – for NEUFC in 2019 due to a Shinbone injury. In the 2020-21 season, Gallego missed 4 matches due to a hamstring injury.
