NorthEast United FC’s Federico Gallego suffered multiple fractures during the second leg of the Indian Super League 2018-19 semi final against Bengaluru FC at Bengaluru on Monday night.

Gallego was injured when he went to block a shot from Miku near the box. He was immediately rushed off the field on an ambulance leaving the crowd stunned.

Updating the fans about Gallego’s injury, NorthEast United FC management said that he suffered a serious injury during the second leg of the Semi Final and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

“He suffered multiple fractures to the shin bone and is currently undergoing surgery. We will provide updates as and when we receive official confirmations from the doctors,” an official statement from the club said.

Gallego was one of the top performers for NorthEast United this season along with Bartholomew Ogbeche and Rowllin Borges. Incidentally, NorthEast United FC was forced to play without their top-three players on Monday as Ogbeche and Borges were ruled out due to injuries in the first leg of the Semi Final.

Gallego combined with Ogbeche to trouble the opposition during the season, scoring 4 goals and 5 assists for the club. The 28-year-old Uruguayan was in top form as he was regarded as the playmaker for the Highlanders.

Bengaluru FC got the better of NorthEast United on Monday as they won 3-0 to reach their second consecutive Hero Indian Super League final.

This was the best season for the Northeast side as they played their first play-offs in ISL history.
