The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) on Monday decided to build a museum in honour of former Lok Sabha speaker late Purno Agitok Sangma besides erecting his statue in Tura.

“As a tribute to his contribution to the state and national politics, a statue of PA Sangma will be erected in Tura,” Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP National President, Conrad K Sangma said.

He said a biography on his life will be written and a book on his ideology will be published by 2021. Conrad, who is also Sangma’s son, said the party will also build a museum in honour of his father.

Sangma was the Lok Sabha MP of Tura for several years. He passed away on March 4, 2016. He was also the chief minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990. He also served as the Lok Sabha speaker from 1996 to 1998.
